Australia Immigration Nation SBS Documentary January 2011

We appreciate our immigrants -- if they earn it. Despite past successes, attitudes towards new Australians remain contradictory.

WE used to have the dagos and the wogs. Then it was the slopes and the slanty-eyeds, the yellows, the balts and the Lebs and the curry-munchers. And more recently it has been the towel-heads and the terrorists infiltrating Australia and undermining our way of life.

If there is a lesson in the past half-century or so of migration, it's that new arrivals can expect a withering initiation. The nicknames may change, and so too the migrant groups subjected to suspicion, derision and worse, but the fear that drives such insults is persistent and widespread....

...Australian society has been supple enough to adapt to wave after wave of migration in the 65 years since World War II, and by and large we like the society we've created. So, although there are myriad concerns about how future immigration might threaten our society, our history says we have reason to be confident. We are nothing if not champions of change.

Australian International Education Outlook 2011 India crisis now China

Australian International Education Outlook 2011 India crisis now China.

Outlook for 2011. Universities are increasingly concerned that new international student numbers are falling quite substantially. There is a fall in higher education visa applications for semester two of 16-20%, with bigger falls being reported by agents for 2010-11.

At the same time pathways programs into universities are falling even faster, possibly exceeding 30% for universities for next year according to a range of reports coming in.

Growing signs of China crisis. THE number of Chinese students undertaking English-language tests in preparation for coming to Australia has plummeted by more than 25 per cent this year.

This confirms fears of a downturn next year in the country’s single largest international student market.

The International English Language Testing System data shows candidates are instead aiming to go to the US and Britain. It is a further sign students are being put off by tighter visa requirements and a strong Australian dollar.

In addition, an Austrade survey of Chinese agents reveals 53 per cent are expecting demand for Australian education to fall during the next three to 12 months.

The survey of 30 agents found increased costs, along with tighter migration settings and policy uncertainty, were key turn-offs for students.

Nearly half the agents reported their Australian business had fallen by more than 20 per cent, while their business for the US was up an average of 50 per cent.

There are also the flow on effects for not just industry employees, tourism and related industries, but also property market both rental and purchasing, not to forget the slowing effect on population growth…..

AIEC Expression of Interest Application for Admission to a Higher Degree by Research Griffith University Australia

Expression of Interest process for application for admission to a higher degree by research at Griffith University Queensland is now available.

The Expression of Interest system will complement the Griffith Graduate Research School’s existing admission process through the introduction of a simplified online form that collects the minimum amount of information required for a Head of Element to assess an applicant’s suitability for admission and alignment of applicant’s proposed topic with school resources. The Expression of Interest approval process will be handled through an electronic workflow process, allowing for improved turnaround times for the entire application process.

Applicants who have not identified potential supervisors, or who do not clearly meet the eligibility requirements for admission will be required to complete the Expression of Interest in the first instance. Eligible applicants who have already identified a research topic and potential supervisors will be advised to complete a full application for admission.

Please note: the Expression of Interest is not an application for admission to a higher degree by research. Successful applicants will be invited to submit a full online application form. Further, an invitation to complete a higher degree research application does not guarantee admission to a higher degree research program.

Ausztrália Bevándorlási Hírek

A nagytőke bevándorlókat akar.
