Victorian TAFE fees deter students

TAFE fee system deters students. TAFE courses have been cancelled, enrolments are falling and casual teachers are replacing full-time staff because of the state government's new fee system, according to teachers and students.

Submissions to a government review, obtained by The Sunday Age, suggest course enrolments at some Victorian TAFEs have fallen by more than half because students can't afford the fees. Full-time staff have been made casual after being told by their employer that uncertain enrolment numbers created a financial risk.
